Trans women are women is what’s called a “thought terminating cliché.” It signals allegiance to a certain ideology, and serves as a conversation ender. For people who use it, it’s the unquestioned and unquestionable truth. If you don’t agree it means you’re beyond the pale of acceptable society. You’re a transphobe or a TERF.
How do we cut through thought terminating clichés? And why is the trans bamboozle so hard to eradicate once it takes hold?
